If you are looking for a case of overtourism, don't look further, just stop here at the Trevi fountain. The world famous spot in Rome. Tourists are milling everywhere, the streets are choked and the outdoor tables of the bars are running to capacity. A place to avoid at all costs you should say? No, the Trevi fountain is a 5 point rated site all the same. Maybe that is a partial cause of the extreme bustle of tourists. The council of Rome has found a new way to extract money. For 2 euro a head you are allowed to come close up to the fountain.
